Star Ground

One shopping list for every pedal you're building.

Give Star Ground the build documents for your next pedals. It reads each parts list, merges them, subtracts the parts you already own, and tells you exactly what to check wherever it isn't sure it read the document right.

The app is being rebuilt here. Until then, the current version does the same work.

01 / HOW IT WORKS

From a stack of build documents to one parts order.

Each pedal's build document lists its parts. Copying those lists by hand is slow, and one missed resistor stalls a build for weeks. Star Ground does the copying and shows its work.

  1. Add your builds

Upload a build document, paste a link to one, pick a circuit from the preset library, or paste a parts list as lines like R1 10k.

  2. Check what it read

Self-checks read each document again independently. Wherever the parts list could disagree with the document, you get a warning that names the part to check.

  3. Buy and build

Get one shopping list across every project, net of your stock and with spares where running out would stall you, plus supplier cart files, build checklists, and bin labels.

02 / DOCUMENTS

Reads the build documents of five PCB publishers.

It handles ruled tables, side-by-side lists, and documents that describe several circuits, where you choose the one you're building. Parts lists printed as images are read by OCR only if you ask, and every part OCR read is listed for you to check. Other publishers' documents aren't tested, so expect more warnings there, or parts it can't read.

03 / ACCURACY

Graded against parts lists checked by hand.

The parser reads each page's word positions and table lines, with no language model, so a document always gives the same list. It can still be wrong, but not silently: on every labeled document, each wrong or missing part carries a warning. New documents can differ from the labeled ones, so check the warnings it shows you.
